Chevy Equinox repair in Miami

The Equinox is a roomy, easy to drive SUV for family duty and rideshare. A few engine and transmission habits are worth knowing. We check the known trouble spots first so you only pay for what matters.

What we see on the Equinox

Burning oil on the 2.4L

2010 to 2013 Equinoxes with the 2.4L are known for piston ring wear that burns oil. GM offered special coverage on some. Low oil can also wear the timing chain.

Oil change

Lost 3rd, 5th or reverse

Some 2010 to 2012 Equinoxes with the 6-speed automatic are known for a broken internal wave plate. Losing certain gears is the sign. It needs a real diagnosis before rebuild talk.

Transmission service

Coolant level keeps dropping

We often see coolant loss complaints on 2018 and newer Equinoxes with the 1.5L turbo. A sweet smell or low coolant warning means check it before it overheats.

Cooling system

Battery warnings on stop start models

Newer Equinoxes use an AGM battery for auto stop start. The wrong battery wears out fast in South Florida heat.

Battery replacement

Clunk over bumps

Front sway bar links and strut mounts are known wear items. Daily potholes and speed bumps speed that up.

Questions people ask

How can I tell if my Equinox is burning oil?
Check the dipstick with the engine cold on level ground. If you add more than a quart between changes, get it looked at. Blue smoke at startup is another sign.
What does a low coolant warning mean?
Coolant is leaving the system, either outside as a drip or inside the engine. Do not keep topping it off and driving. We pressure test it to find where it goes.
Which engine does my Equinox have?
GM used several engines in the Equinox, and the parts differ. Tell us the year and engine when you book, or we look it up from the VIN when you arrive.
