HeroProtects products

HeroProtects, based in Maryland Heights, Missouri, sells home and vehicle protection plans through agents, auto dealers and other resellers. Its vehicle line includes HeroShield, a Limited Warranty product, and add-ons like GAP, Tire and Wheel, Key, Chemical, Etch and a 5 in 1 bundle.

HeroShield comes in Silver, Gold and Platinum. Silver covers basics like engine, cooling, transmission and drive axles. Gold adds AC, suspension, steering, brakes, electrical and fuel systems. Platinum is its broadest level, with exclusions like glass, tires and maintenance items. HeroShield lists a 24-hour emergency roadside benefit with a per-occurrence limit.

Any licensed shop, with one catch

HeroProtects' customer page says you can take your vehicle to any licensed repair facility, although it prefers the original dealer. It also says labor rates can vary, and you pay any difference beyond the rate your contract covers. We tell you that number in writing before any work, so there is no surprise at pickup.

Miami heat and Gold or Platinum

If you have Gold or Platinum, AC is on the HeroShield list. A failed compressor or condenser is a common summer claim here. We test the system, find the leak or failed part, and send HeroProtects what it asks for.
