Who Magellan is
Magellan Service Corporation administers vehicle service contracts that car dealers offer when you buy a vehicle. Its site says your auto dealer works with Magellan to provide coverage for your purchase. Magellan describes these agreements as covering maintenance, repairs, or component failures outside the original factory warranty.
Magellan also notes that its agreements do not replace legally required manufacturer warranties, safety recalls or liability insurance.
The rule that matters most
Magellan's home page says you must obtain claim authorization prior to making any repairs, and repairs made without prior authorization will not be covered. This is the most common way people lose a claim: the car gets fixed first and the paperwork comes later.
